The club welcomes new riders of all ages. A good proportion of our members have come to cycling after participating in other sports. The short (summer-only) Wednesday evening pub rides of about 20 miles (2 hours duration) are a good way into road cycling as are the shorter Sunday rides during Autumn and Winter. We always regroup at the top of hills and major road junctions and no-one gets left behind. With prior notice we can organise a shorter Wednesday ride of 10-15 miles depending on the location.
For those who are uncertain about cycling in traffic, riding in a group is a safe and enjoyable way of gaining confidence. We have two cycle instructors who can access free cycle training and numerous lifelong cyclists who are happy to pass on their experience.
By cycling with us you will have the benefit of finding lots of interesting and relatively traffic-free routes that we have built up over the years. In fact, we enjoy the routes so much that we take our time, enjoying the scenery and having a good natter along the way. If you want to be part of this friendly, non-competitive cycling experience then come along to one of our rides. There is no need to worry about joining/annual club fees: if after a few rides you feel you want to join then you are welcome to pay the very modest annual club fee, we will explain "on the road". Note Sunday rides involve a half-way stop at a café where we normally have a small snack and a cup of tea.
